Volunteering at Oaklawn Hospital

A cherished group within the Oaklawn family is the Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary.  This group of  nearly 170 volunteers has raised significant sums of money for patient care and equipment, and dedicated countless hours to assisting patients and visitors since it was organized in 1951. This entirely volunteer group manages and staffs the Gift Shop and Information Desk, works in patient areas, assists with blood drives, and makes many other valuable contributions to the hospital staff and patients.

Whatever your skills or interest, there's a volunteer activity at Oaklawn that you could fill, and we can fit almost anyone's schedule - from a few hours a year, to a few days a week. For a most rewarding use of your time, consider joining the Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary.

Auxiliary Guilds

Birth Center:

Deliver food trays and run errands for nurses. Collect the baby booties, hats and blankets made by Auxilians and other generous people in the community.

Bloodmobile:

Help the American Red Cross staff several blood drives throughout the year.

Gift Shop:

Staff the Gift Shop and assist with the annual Holiday Bazaars.

Information Desk:

Members are often the first people seen by patients and visitors at the hospital and the most important quality is to make a great first impression. They answer questions, provide directions, and monitor the Surgery waiting room.

Oncology:

Assist with tasks in the busy Oncology Department and converse with patients.

Patient Care:

Distribute fresh water, mail and flowers to patient rooms, run errands requested by staff and monitor waiting room magazines.

Stuffed Toy:

Make stuffed toys that are distributed in Registration, Lab, Emergency Department, Radiology, Outpatient Surgery and Medical/Surgical Departments. Approximately 700 toys are delivered throughout the hospital each year.

Tray Favor:

Make decorative favors for patient food trays.

Student Art Show:

Members work with the hospital Development staff, students, and art teachers to hold this annual event that showcases the artwork of more than 260 K-12 Marshall Public School students. Following a reception, artwork is hung throughout the hospital for 10 months.
