Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary Student Art Show - 2009
Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary's 23rd Annual Student Spring Art Show was held on Friday, May 8, with 262 pieces of art on display at Bank of America. The event is put on by the Oaklawn Hospital Auxiliary who work with Marshall Public Schools art teachers and local art judges in selecting the pieces. The hospital and the Auxiliary combine to pay for all of the art to be framed and matted (a portion of which is donated by Darling & Company Framing and Art) and also contribute to the $1000 Hayes-Freese-Oaklawn Hospital scholarship. The late Muriel Hayes and Bobbie Freese were Auxiliary members who organized the first student art show, and Mrs. Hayes' estate and Mrs. Freese have contributed to the scholarship ever since. This year's recipient of the Hayes-Freese-Oaklawn scholarship is Elizabeth Harrington, daughter of Tiffany and E.J. Harrington. Three $200 savings bonds were also given away by Bank of America via a drawing. The art is displayed in the bank lobby for two weeks before being transferred to the hospital for display over the next ten months.
